Facade Inspection in NYC: Requirements, Cost & Deadlines

Everything a NYC building owner or facade contractor needs on facade inspections — when they're required, how often, who does them, what they cost, and what happens next.

Is a facade inspection required in NYC?

Yes. Under FISP / Local Law 11, every building taller than six stories must have its exterior walls inspected on a recurring cycle by a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) and the facade filed with the Department of Buildings.

How often, and by when

Once per FISP cycle (about every five years), within the building's assigned sub-cycle window. The current cycle and its 10A/10B/10C dates are here: FISP Cycle 10 deadlines.

Who performs it — the QEWI

Only a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector (QEWI) — a licensed PE or RA meeting the DOB's FISP requirements — may inspect and file the Technical Facade Report.
